The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has highlighted the important role of female teachers in educating Afghan girls on World Teachers’ Day.
UNICEF Afghanistan said on Monday, October 5, that Afghan women can help strengthen the knowledge and skills of young girls by continuing their education and entering the teaching profession.
The agency also expressed appreciation for teachers’ role in educating future generations, saying Afghan teachers are creating opportunities for the growth and development of future generations through their “passion, knowledge and commitment.”
The remarks come as women and girls in Afghanistan have faced increasing restrictions on education, schooling and employment since the Taliban returned to power.
