Uzbek media outlets have reported that nearly 600 kilograms of drugs smuggled from Afghanistan were seized in the Surkhandarya region.

Uzbek media outlet Daryo reported that the drugs were concealed beneath the floor of a cargo truck trailer.

According to Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee, a cargo truck that had entered the country from Afghanistan was inspected by customs officers at around 10:30 p.m. on October 1.

During the inspection, 98 packages of drugs were found beneath the trailer floor. Of these, 79 packages contained 42 kilograms and 335 grams of hashish, while the remaining 19 packages contained 10 kilograms and 260 grams of opium.

The packages were wrapped in four layers of plastic, paper and adhesive tape to make them difficult to detect using X-ray scanners.

The total amount of drugs seized was estimated at nearly 340,000 doses.
