The UN-Habitat says many cities in Afghanistan are not prepared for rapid urbanization.
In a message issued Tuesday, February 17, the agency stated that by 2060, one in every two people is expected to live in urban areas.
The organization added: “By prioritizing the creation of livable and safe environments, we can build cities where everyone enjoys a decent quality of life.”
UN-Habitat had previously reported that more than four million people in Afghanistan will require shelter in 2026.
The agency has consistently warned about the unplanned growth of Afghanistan’s cities.
