In response to reports on the whipping of people by the Taliban, the United Nations has called flogging of the people under any pretext as a cruel act by the Taliban.
Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesman of the Secretary General of the United Nations, said in a press conference on Thursday, November 24, “We are against any kind of cruel punishment.”
This is despite the fact that the Taliban whipped 12 people, including three women, on the charge of adultery in Logar province on the bases of a trial issued by the appeals provincial court.
Similarly, last week, the Taliban court in Takhar province publicly flogged 19 people, including women.
