Kabul – Pakistani media have reported that the government is trying to reduce border tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
The Express Tribune reported today Monday, January 3rd, quoting sources, that the Pakistani government had expressed its highest level of concern over border tensions to officials of the Taliban.
The concern comes after Taliban forces tried to collect barbed wire from the border.
On the other hand, Pakistani officials said on Sunday, January 2nd, that Pakistan had observed maximum restraint in the face of such tensions with the Taliban forces.
The Pakistani government would issue an official statement on border tensions with Afghanistan in the coming hours, a source told the Express Tribune.
According to Pakistani officials, they have already raised their concerns with the Taliban at all levels.
A number of local Taliban commanders were individually inciting the Pakistani military to escalate tensions, Pakistani media reported.
However, a Pakistani government official said that Taliban leaders, realizing the importance of cooperating with Pakistan, and are concerned about the behavior of their forces.
In addition, it is said that other factors, including traffickers, have also been implicated in trying to exploit tensions between the two sides.
The Pakistani government official has stated that the government is closely monitoring the situation.
According to him, there are other major issues because of which Pakistan does not want to get involved in border tensions.
In an interview with the Express Tribune, the Pakistani official stated that elements inside Afghanistan may intend to provoke Pakistan.
Moreover, since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, their forces have clashed with Pakistani forces on several border issues.
Earlier, a video was released of a Taliban commander warning Pakistani troops of the consequences of border crossings.
In the meantime, the Taliban last week prevented the Pakistani military from fencing off and confiscated all their equipment, according to sources in Nimruz.
Furthermore, Pakistan has tried to continue the blockade despite opposition from the previous government and the hypothetical reading of the Durand Line by Afghan officials.
According to Pakistani officials, the country has completed 90% of the fencing near Afghanistan and wants to complete the process as soon as possible.
