The World Food Programme has warned that hunger in Afghanistan is on the rise and requires $539 million to address the needs of the affected population over the next six months.
On Sunday, August 3, 2025, the programme stated on its X page that women and child returnees are the most affected.
The World Food Programme noted that the hunger crisis in Afghanistan is deepening every day.
According to the programme, two out of every three female-headed households are unable to secure sufficient food.
Additionally, 3.5 million children are suffering from malnutrition.
The World Food Programme emphasized that 10 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance to survive.
This comes as Afghanistan continues to rank at the top of the list of countries facing food insecurity.
