Some health sources say that economic difficulties and families’ financial inability have led to an increase in the number of women seeking abortions in Kabul.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, October 19, that the number of women seeking abortions in Kabul has increased in recent months.
According to health sources, three women sought abortions in just one week, some of whom could not even afford the cost of a doctor’s consultation.
Reports indicate that the Taliban’s severe restrictions on abortion have led some women to avoid seeking care at public hospitals.
This situation comes as the economic conditions of citizens of Afghanistan have deteriorated since the Taliban takeover of the country, with poverty and unemployment increasing.
In addition to economic difficulties, restrictions have deprived girls of education beyond the sixth grade, while concerns about forced marriages, child marriage, and the risk of early pregnancy have also increased.
