The World Health Organization (WHO) says vaccination plays an important role in preventing serious diseases at all stages of life, from childhood to old age.
The organization wrote on its X account on Sunday, August 16, that most routine vaccines are administered during the first two years of life because children’s immune systems are still developing.
According to the WHO, vaccination during pregnancy also protects the mother and newborn and can transfer protective antibodies to the baby before birth.
The organization added that vaccines also help maintain people’s health at older ages by reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.
