The Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative has called for continued efforts to eradicate polio and ensure that all children in the country are vaccinated, marking World Polio Day.

On Wednesday, October 21, the initiative praised frontline health workers for their efforts to vaccinate children and prevent the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported six new cases of polio in Afghanistan.

According to the organization, the total number of polio cases recorded in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2026 has reached 42.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries in the world where cases of wild poliovirus continue to be reported.
