Yemeni sources have reported clashes between the country’s government forces and Houthi militants near the border with Saudi Arabia.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on Wednesday night, September 16, that Yemeni army forces were advancing through desert areas.
According to the report, the Houthis also released footage on Wednesday showing fighting in the Al Jawf region, as well as a video that they claimed showed the downing of a Saudi fighter jet.
Waleed Al-Mahajri, a commander with the government forces, said the army was advancing and would reach Houthi positions.
However, Yemen’s civil war, which had largely subsided since 2022, intensified again in July. The Houthis have made rapid advances, taking control of the entire Red Sea coastline and the strategic islands around the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern end of the sea.
