Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, has said that remarks made by some leaders of European Union (EU) member states raise serious doubts about their competence and leadership abilities.
Russia’s state-run news agency, TASS, reported on Saturday, June 6, that Zakharova made the comments on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum while responding to questions about Ukraine and several European countries.
She described statements made by certain EU officials as “irrational,” arguing that their remarks cannot be considered “measured and logical.”
Zakharova also referred to previous comments by Emmanuel Macron regarding NATO’s “brain death,” saying that recent developments have once again raised questions about the performance and approach of European leaders.
Her remarks come amid severely strained relations between Russia and European countries since the start of the war in Ukraine. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of escalating tensions and pursuing misguided policies.
