Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president’s special envoy, says Moscow is ready to work with its regional partners to bring the Taliban and Pakistan closer together and resolve disputes between the two sides.
The TASS news agency reported on Wednesday, October 7, that Kabulov said Western countries would have no role in efforts to resolve the dispute between the Taliban and Pakistan.
He added that Russia is ready to cooperate in helping bring about reconciliation between the Taliban and Islamabad, although the differences between the two sides were not resolved at the “Moscow Format” meeting on Afghanistan.
Kabulov made the remarks as tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan continue.
Nataliya Zamarayeva, a senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also said that disputes between the Taliban and Pakistan are cyclical and that changes in government cannot alter the situation.
She added that Russia could play a mediating role in this regard, as Moscow is interested in regional stability.
