The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) has condemned the Taliban’s arrest of TOLOnews journalists and those from “Paigard News Agency.”
The AFJC said in a statement on Sunday, May 10, that at least four journalists have been arrested and threatened by the Taliban over the past four days.
According to the statement, Ahmad Javid Niazi, the head and journalist of “Paigard News Agency,” was arrested on May 6, while Mansoor Niazi and Imran Danish, journalists of TOLOnews, were arrested on May 7.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center, expressing concern over the arrest and intimidation of journalists, has called on the Taliban to respect media freedom and the right to access information.
Findings by the AFJC show that, including the newly detained journalists, at least seven journalists are still being held in Taliban custody.
The Taliban have not commented on the arrest of these journalists.
