Local sources say the Taliban have ordered domestic media outlets and journalists not to publish news about clashes between Taliban fighters and Pakistan without permission from the group’s spokespeople.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, October 28, that the order had been issued by the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence and communicated to journalists through the group’s local spokespeople.
According to the sources, Taliban spokespeople have been instructed to ensure that if clashes occur in border areas with Pakistan, media outlets do not publish any reports about them until they receive permission from the spokespeople.
The sources added that the restrictions also apply to journalists’ social media accounts and are intended to prevent the publication of news about clashes with Pakistan.
These statements come as sources say clashes broke out last night between the Taliban and Pakistani forces in Barmal district of Paktika province. However, domestic media outlets and local journalists have not published any reports about the incident.
The Taliban previously used domestic media outlets to publish reports about their own achievements during clashes with Pakistan. However, sources say the group is now seeking to prevent the publication of news about the clashes and keep the public uninformed about these events.
