Amnesty International has described the Taliban’s “Police Law,” recently published by the group’s Ministry of Justice, as another sweeping assault on human rights in Afghanistan.
The organization wrote on its X page on Wednesday, August 26, that the enforcement of the Taliban’s “Police Law” has far-reaching consequences for the due process of law in the country.
Amnesty International said Article 50 of this “Taliban law,” which bans all forms of demonstrations, constitutes a clear violation of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly.
According to the organization, by imposing such a sweeping ban, the Taliban are further deepening the suffocating climate of repression and severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan.
Amnesty International added that the Taliban have previously targeted protesters and opponents through arbitrary arrests and detention, torture and other forms of ill-treatment, and enforced disappearances.
This comes after the Taliban recently announced the approval and enforcement of the “Police Law,” Article 50 of which bans all forms of demonstrations in Afghanistan under the group’s control.
