The United States has told several Middle Eastern countries and regional allies to prepare for possible military action against Iran after the US midterm elections, two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
The news agency reported early Thursday, October 29, that Washington had also warned its allies to prepare for possible Iranian retaliatory attacks.
According to the report, the two diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they were not authorized to discuss the sensitive warnings conveyed by US diplomatic and defense officials.
They stressed that US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on launching new attacks against Iran.
However, Trump has repeatedly said he would consider further military action after the decisive US elections scheduled for November 3.
The diplomats said the United States had informed its regional allies that a new round of military action could last several days. Regional officials, meanwhile, are preparing for possible retaliation by Iran and its proxy groups.
The latest threats and Washington’s renewed emphasis on the need for allies to prepare for potential retaliation have put the region on heightened alert.
