Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan has reported widespread condolence calls from senior Taliban officials following the assassination of Sheikh Idris, a well-known Pakistani cleric.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan said in a post on X platform on Friday, May 8, that senior Taliban members contacted Maulana Fazlur Rehman to offer condolences over the killing of “Sheikh Idris.”
The message named Mullah Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Minister of Defense; Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Minister of Interior; Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister; and Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesperson.
According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, each of these Taliban officials made separate phone calls to express condolences over the killing of “Sheikh Idris.”
The media wing of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan added that Taliban officials strongly condemned the assassination and said they share the grief of the people of Pakistan over the killing of the cleric.
“Sheikh Idris,” a senior member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, was shot dead on May 5 in the Charsadda area while he was on his way to a religious school.
