Rabab Fatima, the United Nations secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has called for continued support from Khalilur Rahman, president of the UN General Assembly, for the mission.
Fatima said in a post on X on Tuesday, October 6, that she met with Khalilur Rahman and appreciated his commitment to supporting the “world’s most vulnerable countries” and addressing their priorities during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, Rabab Fatima also called for the General Assembly president’s continued support for UNAMA.
She added: “She is counting on the continued support of the president of the General Assembly for the UNAMA mandate, including in his new role.”
Rabab Fatima, a Bangladeshi diplomat, is the third woman appointed by the United Nations to head its Assistance Mission in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power.
