British Prime Minister has announced that the United Kingdom will allocate $345 million to help equip Ukraine with 16 advanced fighter jets and will work with Sweden to provide the aircraft.
Reuters reported on Thursday, July 16, 2026, that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during a visit to Kyiv, said the assistance is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities against Russian attacks.
According to the report, in June, the Swedish defense company Saab signed a contract to deliver 16 Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine. The contract is valued at approximately $2.5 billion.
The package will include training for pilots and engineers, flight simulators, spare parts, and the equipment required to operate the aircraft.
The British government said the investment will support around 5,000 jobs across more than 50 British companies involved in the Gripen fighter jet program.
