According to local sources, two children have committed suicide in the provinces of Ghor and Nangarhar.
Local sources in Ghor reported on Thursday, 20 April, to Hasht-e Subh that a 12-year-old student in the village of Sar-Asia Gak in the Lal Wa Sarjangal district of this province hanged himself.
The Taliban confirmed the event by publishing a newsletter and called the child’s suicide a mental health problem.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 19 April, another child hanged himself in the village of Gojni in the Hisarak district of Nangarhar.
Abdullah, 14 years old and an eighth-grade student, hanged himself in his bedroom, according to sources.
The reason for his suicide has been attributed to family disputes and economic problems.
The Taliban have not commented on the matter in Nangarhar.
It is worth mentioning that following the Taliban’s takeover of the country, incidents of suicide among children and adolescents have increased.
