UN-Habitat

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced that by 2060, one in every two citizens of Afghanistan is expected to live in urban areas.

The organisation said in a post on X on Saturday, October 31, that this trend will bring both opportunities and challenges to Afghanistan.

The United Nations added that, given the growing urban population in Afghanistan, cooperation is essential to addressing the challenges and making use of emerging opportunities.

UN-Habitat stressed that efforts must be made to build safe and healthy cities for everyone.

Marking World Cities Day, the organisation also emphasised the importance of cooperation in shaping the future of urbanisation in Afghanistan.
