Yue Xiaoyong, China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, said in a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, that his country is working to reduce military tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday, 8 March, in a press release that the two sides had discussions on China–Taliban relations.
The Chinese representative expressed condolences to the families of civilians who lost their lives in the clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Yue said that China is in contact with Pakistan and seeking to ease the tensions through dialogue.
Taliban–Pakistan clashes have been ongoing for over a week.
Both Pakistan and the Taliban claim to have inflicted heavy casualties on each other.
The UN reported that over 50 civilians have been killed in the clashes.
