Talatbek Masadykov, Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has visited parts of the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border during a trip to Tajikistan.
The organization said in a report on Monday, June 29, that the CSTO Secretary-General held talks with Major General Murodali Rabzhadzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security and Commander of the Border Troops of the Republic of Tajikistan, regarding the implementation of a targeted interstate program to strengthen the Tajikistan–Afghanistan border.
According to the report, during his inspection of border areas, Talatbek Masadykov also visited a border crossing point and reviewed the construction of a mountainous border road.
The report added that he traveled to Tajikistan for a two-day visit at the personal invitation of Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan.
Smuggling and drug trafficking across the Afghanistan-Central Asia border, particularly into Tajikistan, and border security have long been key concerns for member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
