The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that the European Union has allocated 10 million euros to support children in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, UNICEF stated in a press release that this aid is designated for the “Afghan Children on the Move” program and for children returning from neighboring countries.

According to the press release, over the next three years, UNICEF will focus on providing immediate care for children separated from their families, supporting long-term reintegration, and delivering services to 180,000 children and families.

UNICEF noted that the increased return of migrants from Pakistan and Iran has placed unprecedented pressure on child protection services in Afghanistan.

UNICEF emphasized that the European Union’s investment in the “Afghan Children on the Move” initiative has reached 38 million euros since 2018.

The press release stated: “Immediate assistance at the Islam Qala, Milak, Spin Boldak, and Torkham border crossings is linked to long-term, community-based solutions to enable families to rebuild their lives and reduce the risks of unsafe migration.”

UNICEF added that, in the past year alone, it has provided assistance to 14,000 children separated from their families.
