Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, has described the detention and killing of former military personnel as evidence of the Taliban’s inhumane policies in Afghanistan and called for independent and transparent investigations into these incidents.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 14, Faiq said the pattern had continued over the past five years despite the Taliban leader’s announcement of a “general amnesty.”

He described targeted killings, torture, enforced disappearances and deaths in custody as serious human rights violations.

Faiq called on the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and international organizations to conduct independent and transparent investigations into these incidents.

He also stressed that those responsible must be identified and held accountable for their actions.
