The Taliban have announced that 202 Afghan migrant families, comprising 1,016 people, were returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries yesterday.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s deputy spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday, August 23, that 148 families, totaling 778 people, entered the country through the Torkham crossing alone.
According to the statement, 32 families returned through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, 12 families through the Islam Qala border in Herat, and another 10 families through the border crossing in Nimruz province.
The migrants were returned as international organizations have reported that the forced and mass return of migrants has worsened the country’s employment, housing, and food crises.
