Sources report that a former military officer, who had also served under the Taliban, was killed by armed robbers in Kabul.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, May 26, that the victim was identified as Nurullah, who had enrolled in a military academy during the republic era and graduated after the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan.
According to sources, Nurullah was attacked and killed by armed robbers on Monday in the Arzanqimat area of Kabul.
They added that his funeral was held the same day at the Indonesia Mosque, located at the Dawoodkhan intersection.
Sources further indicated that Nurullah had also served in the Taliban’s Mansouri Corps, stationed in Khost and Paktia provinces.
This incident comes as a large number of former military personnel of Afghanistan have fled to neighboring countries to save their lives, while others who remained in the country have faced armed killings and, in some cases, arbitrary detention, torture, and execution at the hands of the Taliban.
Armed robberies and killings are also reported to have risen significantly across Afghanistan, with a large number of citizens killed or wounded in separate incidents to date.
