American media outlets have reported that the gunman involved in the shooting near the White House had been suffering from mental health disorders.
Fox News reported on Sunday, May 24, that the suspect in the Friday night shooting near the White House was a 21-year-old resident of the state of Maryland.
According to the report, the individual was identified as “Nasir Best” and died after being transferred to George Washington Hospital.
He had been shot by U.S. Secret Service agents during the incident.
During the shooting near the White House, one civilian was also injured.
U.S. officials said the suspect had previously encountered the Secret Service and had made threats in the past.
According to the officials, he also had a history of mental health-related issues.
Following the incident, the White House was placed under lockdown.
