U.S. President Donald Trump, while praising Steve Witkoff, his special envoy for the Middle East, who is working on a possible agreement with Iran, has said that reaching a deal with Tehran is not his preferred option.
Al Jazeera reported early Thursday, October 8, that Trump made the remarks at a campaign rally in Texas.
According to the report, Trump said Witkoff is working on an agreement with Iran, but that, in his view, this is not really something he wants to pursue.
He said: “He is working on a deal with Iran, and he is doing a great job. I don’t think this is really something I want to do, but they are willing to offer us anything to make it stop.”
Trump stressed that Iran “will never get a nuclear weapon” and expressed hope that the war would end soon.
However, Trump said the war with Iran would end soon because the country has been “defeated.”
