António Guterres has expressed concern over an attack on a United Nations (UN) vehicle in Kherson, Ukraine.
In a post on X on Friday, May 15, Guterres said civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected under all circumstances.
He stated that a UN vehicle in Kherson was targeted twice this week, despite being clearly identified with United Nations markings.
The UN secretary-general stressed that civilians and civilian objects must always be respected and protected, and that all parties are obligated to comply with international law.
He did not provide further details regarding possible casualties or those responsible for the attack.
Kherson, located in southern Ukraine, has witnessed repeated attacks and intense clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces in recent months.
The United Nations and human rights organizations have previously warned about the growing dangers faced by civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
