Hengaw, a human rights organization, says Iran has executed five Afghan citizens over the past month.

The organization said in a report on Sunday, October 4, that Iran carried out the executions of 68 prisoners in various prisons across the country in September 2026. Five of those executed were Afghan citizens.

According to the report, the Afghan prisoners were executed on charges related to drug offenses, intentional murder and espionage.

Hengaw added that 604 people have been executed in Iran since the beginning of 2026.

According to the organization, at least four women were among those executed in September.
