Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei says progress has been made in talks between Tehran and Muscat on managing the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Al Jazeera, citing Baghaei, deputy foreign ministers from Iran and Oman held discussions in Tehran on Friday and Saturday over how to manage the strategic waterway.

Baghaei said the two sides exchanged views on “common principles and practical mechanisms for managing the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal states.”

He added that the talks were “constructive and progress has been achieved,” while technical and political consultations between the two countries will continue.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson also said that there has been no change in the situation regarding vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, and any tensions or restrictions in the waterway could affect maritime security and global energy markets.
