Esmail Baqaei, spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said that negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad were held in an atmosphere of mistrust and uncertainty.
Baghaei said in an interview with Iranian media on Sunday, April 12, that the two sides reached agreement on many issues but still had differences over two or three key matters.
“These talks were held after 40 days of imposed war and took place in an atmosphere of mistrust and uncertainty. It is natural that we should not expect an agreement in a single session. No one had such expectations,” he said.
Baqaei had previously said that the success of the talks depends on the “seriousness and good faith of the other side” and the acceptance of Iran’s legitimate rights and interests.
The American and Iranian delegations left Pakistan after the failure of the negotiations in Islamabad.
The next round of talks has not been announced, while Pakistan has called on both the United States and Iran to uphold the ceasefire.
