The United Nations has said that Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed more than 340 children and injured hundreds of others since the “ceasefire” agreement took effect.
Al Jazeera reported early Saturday, October 17, that Ricardo Pires, a spokesperson for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), made the remarks during a press briefing.
According to the report, the UNICEF spokesperson said at the briefing at the UN headquarters in Geneva that attacks on Palestinians continued “under the ongoing blockade” of the Gaza Strip.
“The attacks over the past two weeks have killed five boys and two girls. At least 33 other children have also sustained serious injuries,” Pires said.
He added that around 800,000 children in Gaza remained displaced, with most sheltering in tents or unsafe buildings.
Pires warned that conditions were likely to deteriorate further as the winter months approached. This is the fourth consecutive year that Palestinian children have endured inhumane and uninhabitable conditions.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have continued despite the ceasefire agreed to last year.
