Pakistani sources have said that amid Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, Mohsin Naqvi, the country’s Interior Minister, will visit Iran.
Anadolu Agency reported on Saturday, June 6, citing informed Pakistani sources.
According to the report, Mohsin Naqvi will hold talks with senior Iranian officials on “some new proposals” aimed at reaching an agreement between Iran and the United States.
The report says the purpose of the Pakistani Interior Minister’s visit to Iran is to break the current deadlock in the Iran–US negotiations.
According to Pakistani sources, Mohsin Naqvi will also discuss the revival of a second round of talks between the two sides with Iranian officials.
This comes after Mohsin Naqvi met yesterday with Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Interior Ministers’ meeting.
Pakistan has made extensive efforts to bring Tehran and Washington into negotiations and has so far succeeded once in hosting both sides for talks in Islamabad.
