The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has announced that it carried out strikes against positions held by armed groups in northern Iraq.
Al Jazeera reported on Sunday, May 31, that the strikes were conducted by the IRGC’s ground forces, though no further details have been released regarding the identity of the targeted groups or the specific areas attacked.
Iranian officials have yet to provide additional information about the scope of the strikes.
The strikes come amid continuing tensions between Iran and regional countries, with concerns growing over a potential escalation of hostilities.
The joint United States-Israel war against Iran has also intensified conflicts across the Middle East. During the course of that war, thousands of people were killed, including senior Iranian officials, among them Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former Supreme Leader.
