In the aftermath of the explosion targeting a civilian vehicle in Kabul’s “Qala-e Nazir Station” within the sixth security district, the ISIS group swiftly asserted responsibility for the attack.
According to a statement released on Saturday night, January 6, by the Khorasan branch of ISIS, the toll from the incident stands at 20 casualties. However, conflicting reports have surfaced, with the Taliban acknowledging only two deaths and 14 injuries resulting from the same incident.
Khalid Zadran, spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Kabul, provided details, noting that the explosion occurred at approximately 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, in the Dasht-e-Barchi area within the sixth security district. The blast, involving a vehicle, left numerous individuals wounded, all of whom have been promptly transported to hospitals for medical attention.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of successfully suppressing ISIS activities in Afghanistan, the reality on the ground paints a different picture, as the extremist group continues to escalate its attacks across various regions, particularly in the capital.
This recent incident follows a similar pattern, as two months ago, a sports salon in Dasht-e-Barchi, Kabul, was rocked by an explosion, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 27 others. Once again, ISIS claimed responsibility for that particular act of violence.
