Fawzia Koofi, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament and a women’s rights advocate, told the Islamabad conference that only the formation of an inclusive government based on the will of the people can guarantee peace in Afghanistan.
Speaking on Monday, September 29, at the gathering of Afghan activists and political groups in Islamabad, Koofi stressed the need for a system that places citizens at the center of decision-making and respects human rights.
She added that Pakistan is a key partner in this process and must address shared concerns and interests.
Koofi further underlined that the situation of women in Afghanistan has become unbearable.
The two-day conference of Afghan activists and political groups, titled “Unity and Trust,” has been organized by Women for Afghanistan and the South Asia Strategic Stability Institute to promote regional cooperation and outline a vision for Afghanistan’s political future.
