A memorial ceremony for the victims of the Hazara genocide during the rule of Abdur Rahman Khan was held in the Canadian Parliament at the initiative of the Canadian Hazara Humanitarian Services (CHHS).
Hundreds of people attended the ceremony, including Canadian members of Parliament and senators, representatives of political parties, writers, and social and civil rights activists.
Several Canadian lawmakers and senators expressed support for efforts to formally recognize the Hazara genocide during the ceremony.
On the sidelines of the event, a historical documentary animation about the killing and persecution of Hazaras was screened, alongside an exhibition of the community’s cultural and historical artifacts, including Siraj al-Tawarikh.
Participants called for the Hazara genocide during Abdur Rahman Khan’s rule to be formally recognized and for September 25 to be designated in the Canadian calendar as a day of remembrance for the victims of the events.
