German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that Ukraine’s immediate accession to the European Union is impossible, while supporting closer cooperation with Kyiv within EU institutions.
The TASS news agency reported on Friday, April 24, that Merz made the remarks following an informal EU summit in Nicosia.
He added that everyone understands that Ukraine’s immediate accession to the EU is, of course, impossible.
At the same time, Merz said Germany supports greater involvement of Ukraine in the activities of European institutions.
According to him, this participation could include Ukrainian officials attending EU meetings, but without granting the country voting rights.
