Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hinted that he and U.S. President Donald Trump could resume the war against Iran if Netanyahu wins Israel’s election.
Al Jazeera reported early Tuesday, October 27, that the Israeli prime minister made the remarks after Trump said they needed to “finish the job.”
According to the report, Trump wrote in a post on his personal social media platform two days earlier: “Vote for Bibi Netanyahu for Prime Minister; we must finish what we started!”
Netanyahu said Trump was willing to take steps “that would finally eliminate the Iranian threat once and for all,” but suggested this would only be possible if he remained in power.
The Israeli prime minister said he had previously instructed Israel’s intelligence services and military to “overthrow this regime, because that is the only way to end this threat.”
Meanwhile, Trump said on Monday that he believed Netanyahu had performed “very well” under “very difficult” circumstances.
Israelis are set to go to the polls on Tuesday for parliamentary elections.
