Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, has threatened vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz that, according to him, fail to comply with Iran’s rules.
Tasnim reported on Monday night, October 26, that Abdollahi made the threat in response to recent remarks by Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to the report, Abdollahi claimed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has control over the Persian Gulf coast, the islands and the Strait of Hormuz, adding that all movements in the area are being monitored.
He warned that no vessel would be allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz outside arrangements set by Iran.
The Iranian military official threatened vessels he described as violating the rules, saying they would suffer serious damage if they failed to comply with Iran’s demands.
This comes after CENTCOM said on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz remained open, adding that more than 95 percent of vessels were transiting the strait safely.
