The Taliban announced that 20 people were killed and more than 80 others were injured following devastating floods in Parun city, the capital of Nuristan Province.
The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency reported on Monday, July 20, 2026, that more than 100 people have also gone missing in the incident, and search operations are still underway.
Yousuf Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Disaster Management Authority, said that search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the area to assist the affected people and locate those missing.
He added that as relief operations continue, the casualty and damage figures may change.
The Taliban had previously announced that heavy rainfall and flooding in Mandol District of Nuristan Province caused significant financial losses to the residents of the district.
