Former US President Barack Obama has said that the depletion of US missile stockpiles during the war with Iran has left the country more vulnerable.
Al Jazeera reported early Thursday, October 29, that Obama made the remarks during an election campaign event in Georgia.
According to the report, Obama questioned US President Donald Trump’s justification for launching the war against Iran, arguing that Tehran did not possess any nuclear weapons.
He also criticized the costs and consequences of the conflict, saying: “Our allies and bases have been attacked. Americans have been killed and hundreds have been wounded. We have depleted our missile stockpiles, making us more vulnerable, and now Iran has veto power over the Strait of Hormuz.”
Obama has previously criticized the US war with Iran and defended the nuclear agreement with Tehran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was signed in 2015 during his presidency.
