The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that $160 million is needed to meet Afghanistan’s education needs in 2026.
OCHA said on Thursday, October 8, that only $22 million of the required funding has so far been secured.
The agency added that Afghanistan’s education system is facing shortages of teachers, classrooms and educational resources.
According to OCHA, the situation is worse for girls, as they remain barred from continuing their education at the secondary level.
The agency also called for the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan to be lifted, stressing that the ban must not be allowed to continue any longer.
