The Arab League has called for an independent international investigation into what it described as the “systematic torture and ill-treatment” of Palestinians from Gaza held at Israel’s Ramla Prison.
Anadolu reported on Monday, November 2, that the Arab League made the demand a day earlier.
According to the report, the Arab League alleged that the mistreatment of Palestinian detainees in Israel had caused injuries and burns, describing the acts as crimes against humanity that require accountability.
In a statement, the league condemned repeated attacks on detainees in the Rakevet section of the facility, saying the assaults had left prisoners with injuries and burns.
The league described these acts as violations of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions and the Convention Against Torture, and said they constituted “crimes against humanity” that required accountability.
The Arab League’s position followed an October 27 report by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office detailing repeated attacks on Gaza detainees in the Rakevet section.
The office’s report said the attacks took place on Friday and Saturday and involved beatings with batons, pepper spray, gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades.
The Arab League also called on the international community, the United Nations Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly to take action to protect Palestinian detainees and end impunity.
