The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that the Afghanistan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for 2026 has received only 26 percent of its required funding.

OCHA said in a report published on Wednesday, August 5, that the funding shortfall has challenged the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide vital services to millions of people in need.

The organization added that despite reduced financial resources, humanitarian partners continue their activities to maintain essential services for vulnerable areas in Afghanistan.

The United Nations said that the funding shortage is not only a financial issue, but also has a direct impact on the lives of people in need and limits their access to essential services.

OCHA said that declining resources have restricted access to essential medicines, health equipment, awareness programs, and service delivery, and have made it more difficult to address the needs of women and girls in remote and underserved areas.
