The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that 21.9 million people in Afghanistan will need humanitarian assistance in the current year.
The United Nations wrote on X on Tuesday, September 8, that without timely funding, the delivery of aid will face serious challenges.
The UN agency said that despite the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, only around 30 percent of the required funding had been secured by the end of last month.
OCHA said, “As of end-August, only 29.7% of the US$1.71 billion required has been funded, and the impact is already being felt across sectors.”
This comes days after the agency also reported a funding shortfall of more than $150 million for assistance to returnees, people affected by natural disasters, and internally displaced people.
