The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says humanitarian activities and access to people in need in four districts of Afghanistan are facing “severe restrictions.”
OCHA said on Sunday, September 27, that administrative and programmatic interference, as well as restrictions on female aid workers and female aid recipients, were among the main factors behind these restrictions.
According to OCHA, delays in approving projects and memorandums of understanding, movement and border restrictions, and funding cuts are also limiting humanitarian access.
Based on OCHA’s ninth round of humanitarian access severity mapping, Maimana in Faryab, Momand Dara in Nangarhar, and Barg-e Matal and Kamdesh in Nuristan are classified as facing “severe restrictions.”
Restrictions or disruptions to humanitarian access can delay the delivery of assistance to people in need or prevent them from accessing aid.
OCHA said safe and sustained access for humanitarian organizations allows them to assess needs, deliver assistance, and engage with local communities.
