Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected claims by the Taliban regarding the smuggling of weapons from Pakistan into Afghanistan, calling the allegations “baseless and absurd.”

The Dawn newspaper reported on Sunday evening, August 9, that Pakistan said in a statement that the Taliban’s claim that weapons were being smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan for “subversive activities” was baseless and contradicted established facts.

According to the report, the Pakistani ministry said that attempts to link Pakistan to such weapons appeared designed to divert international attention from “far more serious and well-documented concerns.”

The ministry said that terrorist groups continue to find space, facilities and operational freedom inside Afghanistan to plan, support and carry out attacks in Pakistan.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban in recent years of supporting anti-Pakistan groups, an allegation the Taliban have denied.
